Parliamentary Heritage Spotlight
Sir Milo Butler
Sir Milo Butler holds a distinguished place in Bahamian history as the first Bahamian-born Governor-General following the nation's Independence on 10 July 1973. A dedicated public servant and statesman, Sir Milo's career reflected a deep commitment to the advancement of The Bahamas and its democratic institutions.
Before assuming the office of Governor-General, he served the country in several important leadership roles, including as a Member of Parliament and Speaker of the House of Assembly. His service to Parliament helped strengthen the traditions of debate, representation, and governance that continue to shape the nation today.
As The Bahamas embarked on its journey as an independent nation, Sir Milo became a symbol of national pride, unity, and self-governance. His legacy remains an enduring reminder of the importance of public service, constitutional democracy, and leadership dedicated to the people of The Bahamas.
